What is Polished Concrete?
Polished Concrete is a concrete surface that has been refined using diamond tooling in a multistep process. Progressively finer grits of diamond tooling are used until the desired level of shine and smoothness are achieved. During this process, a chemical densifier is used to harden the surface and the concrete can be dyed in many colors.
How is polished concrete maintained? Will it stain?
Polished Concrete is very easy to maintain with just dust mopping and occasionally a PH neutral cleaner. Depending on the type of sealer it can stain. If the floor will subject to frequent spills (particularly fats and oils) a topical (film forming) coating is recommended.
Is polished concrete slippery?
Polished concrete is generally no more slippery than other hard flooring surfaces. But just like other hard flooring surfaces add water and it can get slippery.
How does the cost compare to other flooring types?
Polished concrete can be installed for around half the cost of hardwood flooring and a quarter of the cost of tile. This obviously depends greatly on the complexity of each project.
What colors or sheens are available?
There are huge range of colored dyes to choose from and we can organize one to me mixed just for your project if required. The level of sheen depends on what grit diamond we stop the process at, generally 800 will be matt 1500 semi gloss and 3000 gloss.
What does aggregate exposure mean?
During the polishing process, a layer of concrete is removed which exposes the aggregate. Generally, there are three levels of exposure, Cream which has little to no aggregate exposed, salt and pepper which exposes small pieces and lastly full exposure where you can see a lot of aggregate. If color is added, bear in mind the more aggregate you expose, the less pronounced the color can be as the aggregate does not absorb dye as readily.
What areas does Texland serve?
Texland currently serves the greater Dallas and Houston markets. If you are located outside of those areas, please feel free to still reach out. We may be able to recommend someone in your area.
I'm not sure what I want. Can you recommend something?
Absolutely! Please give us a call or send us an email us at Info@texlandpcf.com and we can walk you through the different options available to you. We can also schedule a site visit to make a more accurate suggestion if necessary.
Do you also provide other construction services? What about other flooring besides concrete?
We also provide remodel services for our clients. Take a look at our gallery for some recent remodel projects. If you'd like us to take a look at another project in your home or business, we'd love to! If we can't do the work ourselves, we can usually recommend someone that can.
I am currently in a remodel or under construction. Can you work with my contractor instead of me?
We are equally comfortable working with either the contractor or the homeowner. If you would like your contractor involved in the entire process, we can schedule a meeting with the three of us to discuss communication and coordination to make sure that everyone is on the same page and happy at the end of the job.
